Why the India Workplace Equity Report are India's workplace benchmarks

These 250 companies were identified through independent research on workplace equity. Together, they show the market what fair, high-trust workplaces look like in practice.

Selected by research, not by application

No organisation was asked to apply, participate or pay. The list reflects evidence, not participation.

Measured on equity

Every company is scored on five pillars: psychological safety, representation, opportunity, transparency and trust.

Built on secondary evidence from four streams

Employee survey data from secondary sources, a public disclosure audit, WCRC analyst evaluation and third-party validation, scored on WCRC's proprietary model.

Validated before publication

Scores are cross-checked across sources, statistical outliers are reviewed, and the final list is audited.

A reference point for every sector

The 250 span industries and six performance bands, so any organisation can find relevant peers to learn from.

Methodology: two methods, one framework

The ranking and Workplace Analysis both use the five pillars of the WCRC Equity Index. They differ in the evidence they use, who takes part and who sees the results.

Method A

How the ranking is built

India Workplace Equity Report — The 250 Best Workplaces in India (2026) is based entirely on industry reports, public disclosures and other secondary research, evaluated on WCRC's proprietary WCRC Equity Index model.

Selection process

  1. Research universe

Indian companies and multinationals operating in India.

  2. Eligibility and disclosure screening

Organisations need enough credible secondary evidence across all four streams to be scored reliably. Those without it are not estimated.

  3. Evidence collection

Evidence is gathered across the four published evidence streams.

  4. Composite scoring

Each organisation is scored against the five pillars of the WCRC Equity Index.

  5. Validation and publication

Scores pass five validation stages before the final 250 are published.

The four evidence streams

Each stream contributes a fixed share of every pillar score.

40%

Employee survey data

Employee sentiment and survey findings available from secondary sources, including published workforce studies and industry reports.

25%

Public disclosure audit

Annual reports, Business Responsibility and Sustainability Reports (BRSR), sustainability reports and published workplace policies.

20%

WCRC analyst evaluation

Structured assessment of documented people practices by WCRC analysts, scored against the Equity Index rubric for each pillar.

15%

Third-party validation

Independent industry reports, credible media reporting and public regulatory records, used to confirm or challenge the other streams.

For listed companies, BRSR workforce disclosures include employee counts and gender representation, turnover, wages and complaints. Published policies reviewed include those on prevention of sexual harassment, whistle-blowing and equal opportunity.

How a score is calculated

Evidence is mapped to indicators under each pillar and converted to a common 0 to 100 scale. Pillar scores then combine into one composite score.

Pillar score = 40% employee survey data + 25% public disclosure audit + 20% analyst evaluation + 15% third-party validation
Composite score = 22% Psychological Safety + 20% Representation & Inclusion + 22% Equitable Opportunity + 18% Transparency & Accountability + 18% Trust & Belonging

Companies are ranked by composite score, published as a whole number, and assigned to one of six performance bands.

Five validation stages

Data triangulation

Scores are cross-checked across all four evidence streams.

Outlier detection

Pillar scores more than two standard deviations from the sector mean are flagged.

Analyst review

A senior WCRC analyst reviews flagged scores and adjusts them only when the evidence justifies it.

Company verification

The Top 50 companies received a score preview for factual verification.

Publication audit

The final list is audited by an independent research ethics board before release.

The published ranking shows

  • Your position in the India Workplace Equity Report — The 250 Best Workplaces in India
  • Your WCRC Equity Index composite score and performance band
  • How your score compares with the full cohort and your band

The published ranking does not show

  • Your individual pillar scores
  • A rank within your sector
  • The internal causes behind your position
  • Employee experience by team, function or location
Method B

How Workplace Analysis works

Culture Crest Workplace Analysis is based entirely on a primary audit inside your organisation, using a scientific methodology developed by WCRC Culture Crest. Your analysis scores come only from evidence collected inside your organisation. Published ranking data is used only for peer comparison.

Every pillar is measured three ways

What employees experience, what systems exist, and what actually happens. When all three agree, you have evidence. When they don't, you have found where to act.

PillarEmployee survey
What people experience
Policy and practice audit
What systems exist
HR outcome data
What actually happens
Psychological SafetyWhether people feel safe to speak up and disagreeSpeak-up channels and anti-retaliation policyConcerns raised and time to close them
Representation & InclusionWhether people feel includedInclusion built into operating decisionsRepresentation at each level
Equitable OpportunityWhether access to growth feels fairWritten promotion criteria and calibrationPromotion and pay gaps between groups
Transparency & AccountabilityWhether decisions are explainedHow leadership commitments are trackedCommitments with owners that are completed
Trust & BelongingWhether people expect fair treatmentRestructuring and transition protocolsRegretted attrition across groups

How your analysis scores are calculated

Within each pillar, the three types of evidence are combined:

40%Employee survey
30%Policy and practice audit
30%HR outcome data

Pillar scores then combine into your composite score using the same pillar weights as the ranking: 22%, 20%, 22%, 18% and 18%. Using the same framework lets you see exactly where your inside view differs from the outside view. Every score is shown with its confidence interval, and equity gaps between employee groups are reported alongside each pillar.

The assessment process

  1. Scoping and agreements

Objectives, employee groups, locations and languages are agreed. Confidentiality and data processing agreements are signed before any data is shared.

  2. Survey set-up

WCRC's core survey is configured with the modules in your engagement, then translated and tested with employees for clarity.

  3. Sampling plan

WCRC calculates the census or stratified random sample needed to reach the precision standard for your organisation.

  4. Employee communication

Employees receive a WCRC anonymity statement and a consent notice before the survey opens.

  5. Fieldwork

The survey runs on WCRC's platform. Participation is tracked by group, never by individual.

  6. Policy and practice audit

Two WCRC analysts independently score your policies and process documents against the WCRC rubric.

  7. HR outcome data analysis

Aggregated or pseudonymised HR data is analysed using ISO 30414 human capital reporting definitions where applicable.

  8. Interviews and focus groups

Held with consent where your engagement includes them, and coded independently by two researchers.

  9. Analysis and quality checks

Responses are screened, weighted and tested for reliability, validity and statistical significance.

  10. Reporting and action

Findings are presented to leadership, the dashboard goes live, and priorities are agreed with named owners.

Scientific standards

Each standard is checked before any result is reported to you.

Frequently asked questions

Answers to the questions CEOs, CHROs and communications teams ask most often.

About the ranking

How were the 250 companies selected?

Through secondary research evaluated on WCRC's proprietary WCRC Equity Index model. Organisations passed eligibility and disclosure screening, were scored on five pillars using four evidence streams, and went through five validation stages before publication. See Method A.

Did any company apply or pay to be included?

No. No organisation was asked to apply, participate or pay. Inclusion, rank, score and band cannot be purchased.

What sources does the ranking use?

Industry reports, public disclosures and other secondary sources, organised into four streams:

  • Employee survey data from secondary sources (40%)
  • Public disclosure audit, including annual reports and BRSR (25%)
  • WCRC analyst evaluation (20%)
  • Third-party validation (15%)
Were our employees surveyed for the ranking?

No. The employee survey stream uses employee sentiment and survey findings available from secondary sources. WCRC surveys your employees directly only in a Workplace Analysis engagement.

Why is the ranking based on secondary research?

It lets every eligible organisation be evaluated on the same kind of evidence, whether or not it applies or pays. That independence is what makes the 250 a credible market benchmark.

How is our score calculated?

Each pillar score combines the four evidence streams at 40%, 25%, 20% and 15%. The composite score combines the five pillars at 22%, 20%, 22%, 18% and 18%, and is published as a whole number. See the worked example.

What do the performance bands mean?

The six bands group companies by composite score, from A1 Equity Vanguard to B3 Culture Builder. Every band represents a place in the India Workplace Equity Report — The 250 Best Workplaces in India.

Can we see our pillar scores?

Pillar scores are not part of the published ranking, which reports rank, composite score and band. Your pillar performance, measured from primary evidence inside your organisation, is available through Workplace Analysis.

Why is another company ranked above us?

Every company is scored with the same model, and ranks follow composite scores. The published ranking does not break down the drivers of a position. Workplace Analysis explains them for your organisation.

How were results validated?

Through data triangulation across all four streams, outlier detection, senior analyst review, score previews for the Top 50 and an independent publication audit.

We think some public information about us is incorrect. What can we do?

Write to the Culture Crest team with the source and supporting evidence. Verified factual corrections are reviewed under the published methodology. Commercial discussions have no bearing on this review.

Will buying a Workplace Analysis change our rank?

No. Analysis results are private and never change your published rank, score, band or recognition.

Recognition and benefits

What do we receive free of cost?
  • Certificate and award
  • Marketing usage rights, with badge and logo kit
  • A WCRC editorial feature
  • An invitation to the National Workplace Excellence Conclave
Is there any cost to take up these benefits?

No. All four benefits are complimentary, and none requires a purchase.

How can we use the badge?

On your website, careers page, social channels, internal communications and employer-brand materials. Always show the edition year and use your rank, score and band exactly as published. The kit includes usage guidelines.

How does the editorial feature work?

You complete WCRC's editorial questionnaire. The WCRC editorial team writes a profile of your workplace philosophy, leadership and people practices, shares it with you for a factual accuracy check, and publishes it on WCRC platforms.

What is the National Workplace Excellence Conclave?

The recognition ceremony in the India Workplace Equity Report — The 250 Best Workplaces in India (2026). It is part of the India Business Conclave 2027, held on 18 February 2027 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

How many representatives can attend?

The Culture Crest team confirms representative numbers with you when you confirm participation.

Media and promotion

How will WCRC promote the ranking?

Through the recognition ceremony, four quarterly press conferences, around 25 editorial features each month, CHRO roundtables and a workplace culture report. See Promotion.

Will our company be named in the media?

Your published rank may be referenced as part of the India Workplace Equity Report list. Company-specific findings from a Workplace Analysis appear only with your approval.

Can we issue our own press release?

Yes. Use your rank, score and band exactly as published and attribute the ranking to WCRC Culture Crest. The team can check your wording for accuracy on request.

Workplace Analysis

What is Culture Crest Workplace Analysis?

An optional engagement based entirely on a primary audit inside your organisation, using WCRC Culture Crest's proprietary scientific methodology. It measures your five pillars through an employee survey, a policy and practice audit and HR outcome data.

Will our analysis score match our published score?

Not necessarily. The ranking uses secondary evidence; the analysis uses primary evidence from inside your organisation. Both use the same five pillars and weights, so you can see exactly where the inside view and the outside view differ.

Which engagement is right for us?
  • Culture Equity Intelligence Report: a one-time view of your culture
  • NEWS9 Editorial Feature: your workplace told as an editorial story on television and OTT
  • Strategic Culture Partnership: deep consulting, studies and board-level strategy
How many employees need to respond?

WCRC calculates this during scoping. Large organisations typically need about 170 valid responses for ±3-point precision; smaller organisations need fewer. Any group reported separately needs at least 10 respondents.

How much employee time does it take?

About 15 minutes for the full survey and 7 minutes for a pulse survey. Focus groups take 60 to 90 minutes and leadership interviews 45 to 60 minutes.

Can we use our existing engagement survey instead?

Existing results are useful context. Your analysis scores use WCRC's survey so every pillar is measured consistently and can be compared with the Equity Index framework.

Which languages are supported?

Languages are agreed during scoping. Each translation is tested with employees before launch.

Can we move from the Report to the Strategic Culture Partnership later?

Yes. Speak to the Culture Crest team about moving to the Strategic Culture Partnership, or adding a NEWS9 Editorial Feature.

Where can we see the commercial terms?

Terms available on request. Your agreement sets out the delivery scope, including languages, locations and focus groups.

Data, privacy and confidentiality

Can individual employees be identified?

No. The survey runs on WCRC's platform, your HR team sees only aggregated results, and no result is shown for any group of fewer than 10 people.

Who sees our results?

Your organisation and the WCRC team working on your engagement. Results are never published without your approval.

Who owns the data?

Your organisation. WCRC processes it under a data processing agreement aligned with the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and DPDP Rules, 2025.

What HR data do you need?

Aggregated or pseudonymised data in WCRC's standard template, covering areas such as representation, promotions, attrition and grievances. Employee names are not required.

Do you sign a confidentiality agreement?

Yes, before any data is shared.

NEWS9 editorial feature

What is the NEWS9 Editorial Feature?
